When I was a little girl I would watch my grandmother paint. She was such a beautiful artist. When she passed everyone in the family took a few of her paintings. I have one that I love though my favorite sits in my grandfather's bedroom (it's also his favorite).

I also have my grandmother's sketch book. In it are not only her sketches but also drawings I did as a child. One of the drawings is of her painting. My kids got a kick out of seeing how Mommy drew as a kid. lol

Anyway, ever since I was young I remember watching my grandmother paint and wishing that some day I would be an artist just like her. I wanted most of all to paint. Oddly, I never did. The closest to painting I ever got was doing watercolors in high school. In my adult life I've used oil pastels. Though that felt more like coloring than painting.

I still want to paint. I don't know why it scares me so much. I can experiment with almost any type of media. But when it comes to painting I freeze up. I feel overwhelmed and like it's just too difficult for me to even consider.

I've decided that I'm going to try. Before my grandmother died she offered me her paints, easel, and canvas. I didn't take them because I felt, at the time, that I would never get passed my hesitation about painting. But now that I have I'm wondering if my grandfather still has them. If not I can always buy them. I just think it would be neat to paint with my grandmother's paints and brushes.

It will be a long time till one of my paintings are up on here. I'm going to have to practice a lot first! lol I'm going to buy canvas paper and practice with tones and colors and brushes. Lots of experimenting until I feel comfortable enough to paint.
